Microsoft closes Windows 11 Insider Preview program for older machines

Bleeping Computer reports that Microsoft closes the Windows 11 Insider Preview program for what Microsoft believes is old devices without warning.

While Windows 11 has very stringent system requirements (including support for new processors only, TPM 2.0, UEFI support, and Secure Boot), Microsoft has allowed Windows Insiders Dev Channel members to deviate from these requirements, so owners of unsupported systems could still install and test Windows 11.

Earlier, the company assured that this situation will continue until the release of the new OS, which, as it became known this week, is scheduled for October 5 this year.

But, as reporters write, Microsoft has now excluded unsupported devices from the Dev channel and Windows 11 Insider program, although there is still more than a month left before the OS release.

After displaying a notification like in the screenshot above, the OS prompts restarting the device, and upon restarting, it tells users to install Windows 10 to get new builds again.

Your computer does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11. Your device does not meet the requirements for the Windows Insider Program for Windows 11. Install Windows 10 to participate in the Windows Insider Program in the Release Preview Channel.

At the same time, journalists noticed that unsupported devices can still download the latest cumulative updates for Windows 11. Brandon LeBlanc, senior manager of Windows Inside, explained to the media that unsupported devices will indeed continue to receive only cumulative updates, but will no longer be able to receive new builds of Windows 11.

The PCs given an exception will no longer receive any new future Insider Preview builds from the Dev Channel but will still get Cumulative Updates for Windows 11 leading up to GA. As I said, there is a distinction between *new builds* here.Brandon LeBlanc reported on Twitter.

Let me remind you that we also reported that Windows 11 Will Support 7th Generation of Intel Processors, But Not First AMD Zen Generation.
