“On March 14, we found 81 potentially unwanted apps on the Microsoft Store. Some of these programs displayed pornographic images, others – gambling-related content, ”writes the antivirus company in its blog.
“Some of these applications have already been removed from the store, but most are still available for download.”
Unwanted applications cover a variety of topics: sports, games, news, tips, and so on. In total, they were published by more than 30 different developers.
To mislead users, potentially malicious applications were disguised as popular programs using similar names. Here are some examples of fraudulent application names: Wix Updates Application, Antivirus Avira App, Norton Antivirus Updates App, McAfee Antivirus Updates News, Tinder Dating Updates, Tips and Games, and Grindr Updates.
Symantec experts point out that these applications are not related to popular brands or legitimate applications. At the same time, some applications displayed pornographic content:
