Hackers Attacked into the Bored Ape Yacht Club Discord Server Again and Stole NFTs Worth $357,000

For the second time in the past two months, the servers of the NTF project Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) have been attacked. This time, the attackers compromised BAYC’s official Discord and Otherside Metaverse by posting phishing links in the chats.

Let me remind you that in April 2022, hackers compromised the Instagram account and Discord server of the NFT project in an unknown way and distributed a fake airdrop advertisement with a malicious link among subscribers. As a result, the attackers stole NFTs worth about $3 million.

At the end of last week, Yuga Labs, the company behind BAYC and the Otherside Metaverse announced on Twitter a new hack that now affected official Discord projects. The hacked official account announced a fake NFT giveaway for existing BAYC, Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) and Otherside NFT holders.

At the same time, the scammers tried to create a sense of urgency: allegedly, minting was available for a limited time, and users were offered a limited number of NFTs.

As soon as the user clicked on the phishing link, all the Ethereum and NFT stored in the wallet were stolen on the malicious page.

According to blockchain security company PeckShield, at least 32 NFTs were stolen in this way, including from collections from the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Otherdeed, Bored App Kennel Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club, with a total value of about $357,000.
