Nowadays, youth is addicted to the virtual life and might even feel more comfortable on the Internet than in the reality. By the way, it doesn’t matter, are you 16 or 66 years old, you can take advantage of the world wide web. Well, they say that the Internet is stealing a real life and real communication from the new generation of teenagers, but to be honest, sometimes it can be very useful. Find a route in the unfamiliar place, keep in touch with our relative which is living far away, shop online when we’re feeling too tired to go to the mall and torture yourself with an eternal searching of something on the shelves… The Internet surely  can make all these procedures more comfortable and fast, but! Firstly, ensure that you always remain vigilant against web threats.

Emails are probably the most common thing that people use the Internet for. They are quite useful, and dishonest software developers are aware of this fact. Unfortunately, emails are very often used by hackers and spammers to spread malicious programs throughout the world, or send you deceptive advertisement with the main goal to gain money from you. How can you prevent such malicious actions? Here are few tips of safe email using:

  • Watch out for scams! If the offer in the letter sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t;
  • Use several emails depending on the purpose: communication, shopping, online banking (NB!! with different passwords);
  • Use spam filters (there are many spam filters available for free);
  • Don’t trust everything that you see. Think critical.

Social media popularity is increasing each day, and it’s even difficult now to find a person which hasn’t registered in one of them. Share your photos and stories with a huge crowd of friends, find your classmates and take a look at their lives now – all these things are magnetic and sound very attractive. OK, let’s see what we can do:

  • Limit the visibility of your personal data to only people you know;
  • Limit the information you provide, especially your contact data, addresses, route;s
  • Think critical – it’s always pertinently.
  • Messengers are often used as a part of the social networks, they work much faster than the emails, so many people prefer such method of the virtual communication to anything else. What do you need to know to keep massaging safely?

    • Don’t click on every link you’ve got, even from your good friend. Ask him before, if he really sent it to you;
    • Don’t send anything you consider private or confidential (such as passwords);
    • Protect your offline privacy. Change your login data from time to time.
