VPN services market research showed that the Chinese government is trying to control its part

One Chinese corporation stands behind 10 VPN-services that in total installed by 86 million users.

Evidenced of it found during a study conducted by experts in the field of cybersecurity from the company VPNpro.

“On the surface, it may seem that the VPN market is teeming with various companies competing for a piece of the growing consumer VPN pie. However, when we began to look further into the VPNs and the companies that own them, we noticed something interesting: a lot of these products are owned by the same company”, — report researchers.

When it comes to the true owner of various VPN products and brands, it is important to know which company actually manages user data.

“If companies are in Russia, China, and other authoritarian/repressive governments, they are forced to provide their data to the governments on a default basis. The parent company may also be willing to sell user data”, — state in VPNpro.

According to the VPNpro report, Chinese company Innovative Connecting secretly owns ten VPN services. However, some of these products were published under the names of other developers (presumably, fictional).

Why it is bad? In fact, the main problem in this state of affairs lies in the close connection of Innovative Connecting with the Chinese authorities. Consequently, all the data collected by these VPN services can easily become available to PRC intelligence.

List of ten VPNs are under the wing of a Chinese company:
  • VPN Master – Free Proxy
  • VPN Proxy Master (Pro)
  • VPN Proxy Master (Lite)
  • Turbo VPN
  • Unlimited Free VPN
  • HOT VPN
  • Snap VPN
  • VPN Robot
  • VPN Sofast
  • Turbo VPN Private Browser

VPNpro researchers warn of potential risks of using these services. Perhaps nothing is wrong with them, but users should be aware of it.
