UK accused governmental-sponsored Iranian hackers in cyberattack on state institutions in December 2018

Iranian hackers faced accusations in recent cyberattacks on governmental and private British structures. Iranian authorities and security service allegedly supported this cyberattack.

During the hackers’ raid, criminals disclosed personal data of several thousand Royal Mail workers, local officials and bank personnel.

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) informed Sky News that it is “working with victims and advising on mitigation measures.”

Supposedly, spear-phishing-led-campaign may follow an attack to open top-secret information access.

Specialists link an attack with The Iranian Revolutionary Guard that can be involved in assault on Parliament accounts in 2017. That time were hacked about 100 scores.

In February 2019 another phishing campaign targeted Tory’s parliamentarian.

David Atkinson, former government “cyber operative”, explained:

“Threat actors will also target the economy and if a large-scale attack is launched against the UK’s banks, you can bet the situation will quickly become critical. The government has a responsibility to ensure a good standard of security and defense across all major organizations to safeguard the UK.”
