Malware programs generate one fifth of world web-traffic

Specialists from Distil Networks studied nearly one billion of requests and published Bad Bot report 2019 in which conclude that malware programs generate about a half of world web-traffic and almost half of inquiries to websites of financial servers.

Researchers note that though volume of traffic in zombie-networks gradually declines, their attacks become more and more complicated. For example, about three fourth of bots able cyclically switch IP-addresses and use anonymous proxy. Such programs successfully mimic human behavior.

“Bots operators and developers of protective measures are playing cat and mouse game. Modern techniques as imitation of computer mouse movements are more and more resembling human actions” – reported media Distil Networks’ CEO Tiffany Olson Kleemann.

With the complication of attacks bots are putting in danger more industries. They generate about half of traffic in financial sphere, about 40% of requests to educational and tickets sales resources and about 30% – to governmental websites. In addition, zombie-networks are responsible for one quarter of requests to aviation companies and nearly 18% – to Internet-shops.

Bat Bot vs. Good Bot vs. Human Traffic

Majorly attacks occur after input of credentials for interception of users’ accounts. In half of cases bots operate in Google Chrome, other popular browsers are Safari and Opera.
